When Rean graduated high school and needed to seek out a first job, he was happy to hear from a longtime friend about Juma. Without any paid work experience and the need for flexibility to support his new college class schedule, Rean was happy to hear from his friend that Juma was a great place to work and also a great way to start your career.
During his first season working at Oracle Park, Rean, a devout sports fan, was excited to work in a space full of other fans and to be a part of their gameday experience. Working alongside other young people who were also at the beginning stages of their careers, he felt at home among his teammates and enjoyed the high energy of the ballpark.
For young people like Rean who are new to the workforce, Juma can be a space to build confidence as well as earn a paycheck.
“Just being out there, serving food, talking to people, building communication and teamwork skills; I think it will be great to use in my career in any job. I look forward to doing it again this year,” Rean reflects.
In his first baseball season, he learned skills like operating a point-of-sale system, how to make a variety of boba tea drinks, and how to pass those skills on to other youth as they began the program. He also learned professional skills like adapting to new work environments as he moved between stands in the park, being open to other people’s ideas, and interpersonal communication.
For Rean, Juma has also been a means to build a financial cushion for the many life milestones ahead.
“Juma was my first paid job. Whenever I get my paychecks, via direct deposit, the money goes right into my bank account, and I’m able to save it for college and other expenses,” Rean explains. “It helped me because I have some money in my banking account and savings accounts, so I won’t have to work paycheck to paycheck when I’m out of school. Juma has helped me establish savings.”
At Juma, Rean has found support in the form of his managers and coworkers. He enjoys the open lines of communication he has with his Juma managers and also how he’s been able to experience many different roles in his first job–from being the new person on the team to training other new youth in the skills he himself has learned on the job. To those young people, Rean passes along the simple but important advice he received from his own Juma managers to try your best every day.
One of Rean’s favorite Juma memories is of the NBA All-Star weekend. “It was really busy, and there were a lot of people, but it was really fun at the same time.” Rean recounts. “I work hard at Juma because I’m passionate about it, but I also like the teams I work for.”
In the future, Rean looks forward to completing the bachelor’s degree he’s working toward in Business Administration and advancing his career. In the meantime, he’s excited to continue earning and learning in spaces where he is supporting some of his favorite teams and working at exciting events like the 2026 Superbowl, taking place at one of Rean’s home fields, Levi’s Stadium.
