A few months ago, we announced that Juma is working with Makers4Good and Alite Designs to develop an innovative backpack that would allow our youth vendors more ease and comfort while vending at the ballpark. Juma is committed to our youth having the best possible first-job experience and their comfort is key.
One of our youth who works at AT&T Park selling hot chocolate recently got the opportunity to test out the first prototype of the new backpack. Alite Designs shadowed our youth during his shift and gained insight into the challenges our youth face with the current backpack.
Juma Enterprise Director, Alvin Yu, helped to compare the original backpack and the prototype and while they look similar, the feel is completely different. Differences in the prototype backpack include more customization, additional back padding for extra breathability, and adjustable shoulder straps. Alvin says, “This project is a learning process for all parties involved–from the project managers and designers all the way to the youth and the sports fans. Youth employees are involved in helping recreate something that will affect them in the short term and future cohorts.”
We are excited at the success of the first test and look forward to the second prototype. We appreciate the work that Makers4Good and Alite Designs has produced for us and our young people which will improve the well-being and first-job experience of Juma youth for years to come!
