2016 was, thanks to your support, another year of unprecedented growth for Juma. We were able to expand our services to include Opportunity Youth, as well as, add new sites to our footprint. By year end, we employed nearly 1000 young men and women, setting them on a path toward permanent employment and financial well-being.
2017 is off to a great start with the expansion of our social enterprise to Texas. Through our partnership with Levy Restaurants, in January, Juma will be launching operations at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and the Toyota Center and the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. As a result, Juma will be creating 250 jobs for youth in need in Texas where 14.2% (nearly 500,000) of youth ages 16-24 are not in school and not working.
This expansion also makes a significant difference in Juma’s budget, growing it from $6.9M to over $9M. In four years, the revenue from Juma’s social enterprise has increased from one-third to more than half in 2017, which allows our donors’ contributions to work that much harder.
At Juma, it starts with a job and because of your generosity, it doesn’t end there. Your investment helps Juma connect young people to additional support services, so that they learn financial capability, re-engage with education, and prosper into adulthood with new life skills. For that, we are thankful and we look forward to your continued partnership in helping break the cycle of poverty for youth from underserved communities across America.
