“I really enjoy working as an Ambassador at Chase Center because I get to be around a lot of passionate Warriors fans and it’s a change from usually working with food at other locations,” says Paolo, a current Juma youth. “[This role] offers more opportunities to work on my problem solving skills because people tend to ask a lot of different questions, so I’m always ready on my feet to help anyone with anything they might possibly need.”
The role requires a heightened level of preparation and professionalism–Juma youth working as Guest Services Ambassadors go through a rigorous eight hours of training online and another two hours in person. Ambassadors must be knowledgeable about every aspect of Chase Center’s hospitality, from knowing the locations of exits and restrooms to offering advice on where to eat, what services are available, and knowing how to ask the right questions to help guests find what they need. New Ambassadors must pass assessments to ensure they are prepared to give guests a seamless experience.
“The Ambassador role requires a lot of initiative; it can be as fun as a youth chooses to make it,” explains Alvin Yu, Juma Director of Enterprise Development. “The role challenges youth in a way that they have to interact with fans on their own; it’s their job to go out into the crowds and strike up conversations. In the customer service sense, it’s much more elevated than what many of them are used to. That is the challenge that the youth get to take on and through that, they can grow in both their customer service skills and confidence.”
